- Introduction
Prof. Chiau, currently the chair professor at both National Taiwan Ocean University and National Sun Yat-sen University in Taiwan, received his PhD in City and Regional Planning from the University of Pennsylvania. Prof. Chiau has long been committed to the establishment of laws and regulations for Taiwan's marine environment and the implementation and promotion of planning and management theories. He has demonstrated this commitment through his extensive experience as a legislator, deputy minister in Taiwan’s Environmental Protection Administration, dean at the College of Ocean Law and Policy of the Taiwan National Ocean University, chairman at the Institute of Marine Affairs and Policy, and chairman at Wetlands Taiwan. His areas of expertise include marine policy, ocean and coastal management, wetland conservation, environmental law, environmental planning and management, underwater cultural heritage preservation and environmental education. Prof. Chiau received the Planning Award from the Taiwan Institute of Urban Planning in 2021 and the Life Contribution Award from the Taiwan Institute of Landscape Architects in 2016.
