【Internship Site Introduction】Dongyanshan Nature Center (Taoyuan City, Taiwan)
The Dongyanshan Nature Center is located in Fuxing District, Taoyuan City. It was established in 2007 and is an Environmental
Education Facilities And Venues by the Ministry of Environment, Taiwan.
Centered around an extensive Japanese cedar (Cryptomeria japonica) plantation forest, the Center works collaboratively with
professional environmental educators and volunteer interpreters to promote environmental education focused on ecosystem services,
sustainable utilization of domestic timber resources, and forest-based health and well-being.
In recent years, the Center has further integrated the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into its educational
programs, with particular emphasis on climate change, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable forest management. Through its diverse
learning opportunities, the Center has become a leading environmental learning destination where visitors can deepen their understanding
of forest ecosystems while enhancing physical and mental well-being through nature-based experiences.
The Center offers a wide range of educational programs, including curriculum-linked outdoor education for schools, family-oriented
activities integrating local culture and food-agriculture education, youth thematic camps, professional development courses for adults,
and forest therapy experiences. Annually, these programs engage more than 4,000 participants. In recognition of its outstanding
educational performance and management, the Center received an “Excellent” Rating in the 2024 Environmental Education Facility
Evaluation conducted by the Ministry of Environment.
Internship Opportunities
This internship placement is expected to provide participants with practical experience in environmental education program development,
implementation, and international outreach. Core internship responsibilities may include:
1. Program Development and Delivery
- (1)Collaborate in the design and development of cross-cultural environmental education programs.
- (2)Participate in and assist with the implementation and facilitation of various environmental education activities conducted by the Center.
- (3)Gain firsthand experience in environmental interpretation, experiential learning, and outdoor environmental education practices.
2. Digital Communication and International Outreach
- (1)Utilize social media and digital communication platforms to introduce the Dongyanshan Nature Center to audiences in the intern’s home
- country.
- (2)Assist in strengthening the Center’s international visibility and global engagement.
- (3)Contribute to the promotion of environmental education initiatives through cross-cultural communication and digital storytelling.
Through these experiences, interns will gain valuable insights into Taiwan’s environmental education system, forest conservation practices,
and innovative approaches to sustainability education while enhancing their intercultural communication and environmental leadership
competencies.
