【Internship Site Introduction】 RCE Tongyeong Sejahtera Forest
Introduction to RCE Tongyeong Sejahtera Forest
A Leading Site for Environmental Education in the Asia-Pacific Region
Located in Tongyeong, South Korea, RCE Tongyeong Sejahtera Forest is a nationally recognized hub for environmental education and a key partner of UNESCO’s Global ESD (Education for Sustainable Development) Programme. Operated by the Tongyeong Education Foundation for Sustainable Development, it serves as both a learning center and a living example of sustainable practices in action.
As part of the 2025 GEEP Asia-Pacific International Internship Program, Sejahtera Forest offers international interns a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in hands-on environmental education programs. These activities include observing eco-education sessions with local elementary schools, participating in Korea’s certified environmental educator training programs, and engaging in comparative reflection on education practices across cultures.
Interns are also introduced to the site’s award-winning programs—eight of which are officially certified by Korea’s Ministry of Environment—as well as its green architecture and 13 eco-friendly systems.
Beyond its structured curriculum, RCE Tongyeong offers optional field visits within the city to explore innovative grassroots initiatives like sustainability school clubs and a “Mobile Fishing School” that promotes responsible marine practices on nearby islands.
Through this experience, participants not only contribute to program development but also build bridges for future international collaboration in environmental education.
