【Special Topic】1st Environmental Youth Leader Project of Taiwan EPA - Yan-Ning Kuo
We must take greater care in the environment because it is the earth that connects all of us together.
From a city with serious air pollution problems, I’ve tried to involve in science education to the public calling for awareness about climate change and was invited to a YouTube channel, Pulche Podcast, to share my research. I also deliver a speech about sea-level variations to Kaohsiung Municipal Kaohsiung Girls Senior High School for inspiring female students’ interest in Earth science. Moreover, I’ve collaborated with Ching Piao, a social enterprise, to organize a workshop sharing the experiences in pushing sustainable development with circular economy and the practice in environmental education.
I also took part in a volunteering team as a teaching plan designer in rural area education. It was a project cooperating with universities in both China and Taiwan. Therefore, aside from the dialect barrier, the educational focus and styles are also different. Therefore, I checked our teaching plans very carefully, with rewriting and discussing several times which led to the successful of this collaboration.
I’ve also launched a project called Experimental Kitchen dealing with food waste by holding a networking event with cooking. More than 10 events were hosted and the attendees are not only Taiwanese but from all over the world. After the events, several attendees told me about their changes in daily behaviors. By doing so, it is my belief that I can inspire those around me to make worthwhile beliefs into practice.
