May humanity and nature share a sustainable future
Water activities are attractive to someone who would like to get close in nature and experience new things these days. Coming up with an idea including entertainment, education and research, I find a new way to achieve the three goals at the same time. To be more specific, my country, Taiwan, is considered as a spectacular island with a breathtaking coastal line landscape, so kayak, Stand Up Paddle and Canoe are becoming more popular water activities in Taiwan. Instead of increasing environmental burden, I lead my customers to clean up marine debris on kayak with hanging a 1mm mesh behind it for collecting litter. As an entrepreneur of outdoor activities company and master degree student in marine biology, I combine with introduction of marine creatures, such as ecology of invertebrates, plastisphere, fish, coral etc. We also integrate clean up action into recreational purpose, ultimately, all of the debris and litter are the sample of my experiment for observing ecology system and microorganism attached on in a long-term monitor. The importance of these data to the environment can be demonstrated by creating a database of these data, either as a teaching material for environmental education or as a basis for environmental assessment of future land development needs. The program includes environmental educators, professional outdoor instructors, university professors, local disadvantaged groups, local NGOs, local governments, and local youth, providing more job opportunities and also assisting research institutions in conducting ecological surveys of marine litter, promoting the concept of environmentally friendly actions.
